Twickenham stabbing – man left fighting for his life

A man is fighting for his life in hospital after being stabbed at just before 10am this morning.

Police and ambulance services, including the air ambulance, raced to the incident, which happened in Queens Road.

Initial reports that a knifeman remained at large in the area were denied by the police.

Two men have been arrested suspicion of grievous bodily harm. One of the men was also taken to hospital with a back injury.

A police cordon is in place on Queen's Road as blue tape blocks of part of the road from pedestrians and traffic.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 101 quoting CAD 2065/18Nov.

One Eyewitness said: "I heard sirens as I was on my way to the station.  A small group of people gathered to try and understand what was going on.

"It's alarming to think of someone being stabbed around this area – and particularly in the middle of the morning."

The air ambulance landed in the car park near The Albany pub, which is alongside the railway line and less than 500 yards from Twickenham Police Station.

Council leader, Cllr Gareth Roberts, said: "There was a knife related incident in Queen's Rd, Twickenham this morning.

"Unfortunately an unsubstantiated rumour that the perpetrator is at large is causing fear and distress. I have received assurances from Metropolitan Police Twickenham that this is not the case. All persons are accounted for."

Richmond Police said: "Police were called at 09:57hrs on Friday, 18 November to reports of a stabbing in Queen's Road, Twickenham.

"Officers attended along with the London Ambulance Service. A man, aged in his 40s, was found with stab injuries. He was taken to hospital where his condition was assessed as life-threatening.

"Two men were arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. One of the men was also taken to hospital with a back injury. The other man was taken into custody."

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called today (18 November) at 9:56am to reports of an incident on Queens Road, Twickenham.

"We sent a number of resources to the scene, including an incident response officer, a medic in a fast-response car, and an ambulance crew. We also dispatched London's Air Ambulance."
