Two teenage twin sisters were so inspired by a Bank Holiday challenge set by The Captain Tom Foundation that they did 100 minutes of community litter picking over the long weekend.

The girls, Velina and Magdalena Grantcharov, went out on their green mission with their mother, Stefka Grantcharov.

They attend The Richmond upon Thames school (RTS) which encouraged its students to take part in the challenge.

Grantcharov says her children are just like any other, but the challenge inspired them to think differently and she hopes it inspires others to pick up more litter.

The #CaptainTom100 challenge encouraged people to take on any activity involving the number 100.

Grantcharov said: "My children are just like any other - in a relationship with their phones and hoping to do as little as possible.

"But Sir Captain Moore's challenge this weekend inspired them to think differently, so we did 100 minutes of community litter picking.

"How fantastic would it be if we did that as a community - either in an organised event or just randomly, whenever we can spare an hour.

"If each household in Twickenham cleaned up a community area for just an hour, how wonderfully different would it all look!"

It seems other residents agree!

One said on Facebook: "Well done! We've seen them in action and was wondering what's the motivation! Inspiring! Thank you!"

Another said: "You have teens to be very proud of! Give them a hug from all the borough!"

What is Captain Tom 100?

To celebrate what would have been Captain Tom's birthday weekend, The Captain Tom Foundation set a challenge around the number 100.

It said: "Everyone is invited to take on a challenge around the number 100 anytime and anywhere over Captain Tom's birthday weekend. It's so simple.

"Think up your 100 challenge. It can be anything you like – from walking 100 metres to baking 100 cakes or writing 100 letters."

The challenge could be completed any time over the Bank Holiday weekend to fundraise for The Captain Tom Foundation.
