Zippo's Circus to return to Twickenham Green
Zippo's Circus will make a stop at Twickenham Green next week, whilst on its nationwide tour.
The circus celebrates the circuses' nomadic way of life and is headlined by the Temujin Troupe, from the Mongolian Steppes, one of the last places where a nomadic culture is still the norm.
The circus is headlined by the Temujin Troupe, from the Mongolian Steppes.
As well as the Temujin Troupe, there will be acts such as the motorbike Globe of Death from Brazil, fast juggling, knife throwing and whip cracking from the Czech Republic, aerial artistry from UK talent Jackie Louise and the Wheel of death act from Colombia.
On Friday evening there will be a civic greeting when the Mayor of Richmond Upon Thames Cllr Suzette Nicholson and her husband John attend a performance.
Circus Director Beau Denning said: "It's a huge honour to be asked to receive the Mayor of Richmond on an official visit. Zippo's Circus has visited Twickenham Green annually for many years now, and we look forward to welcoming old friends and making new ones!"
Chris Barltrop, who is in charge of publicity for the circus, said: "Zippo's has been coming to Twickenham for 30 or 40 years and Twickenham is one of Zippo's favourite places.
"The circus is something that is essential to childhood and it's a continuity of family tradition."
He added: "One of the really interesting acts is the English clown Whimmy Walker, he's called that because he inherited the name from his great great great grandfather who was known as 'Whimsical Walker' in the Victorian times
"He was Queen Victoria's favourite clown and he performed by command for her at Windsor Castle and Balmoral and so the circus is part of the continuity of the circus and the family business."
