An exclusive candlelit evening opening of Strawberry Hill House, held in conjunction with the landmark exhibition Henry VIII's Lost Dagger: From the Tudor Court to the Victorian Stage. Guests arrive from 6 pm for a rosewater spritz inspired by Ottoman courtly flavours, before exploring the exhibition after hours. Inside Walpole's celebrated Tribune, visitors encounter two extraordinary sixteenth-century Ottoman daggers, reunited for the first time.
At 7 pm, Professor Glenn Richardson (St Mary's University) delivers Walpole, Wolsey and the World Beyond, a talk examining the diplomatic ambitions of Cardinal Wolsey, England's complex relationship with Ottoman power, and Walpole's own eighteenth-century internationalism. The evening brings together Tudor history, global politics and Gothic imagination in a uniquely atmospheric setting.
