A road in Twickenham has closed after a major crash which witnesses say involved a pedestrian.

York Street is now closed to traffic in both directions and motorists are urged to take a different route.

Police officers can be seen outside HSBC on the main road, and signs and a police cordon have gone up.

An air ambulance was spotted trying to land near the crash site.

Multiple witnesses say the crash involved a pedestrian.

Richmond Council posted on Twitter: "Due to a road traffic accident, York Street in Twickenham is closed from the junction with King Street to the junction with Arragon Road.

"There is significant traffic disruption in the area, please find an alternative route if possible."

Police and ambulance have been contacted by Nub News for comment.
