Works at Strawberry Hill Station across the Easter weekend finished today and the level crossing between Wellesley Road and Tower Road is now open to all traffic.

Network Rail started work on Friday, April 2 to improve the boom barriers, lights and alarms.

Strawberry Hill's level crossing is one of 13 being improved or upgraded as part of the wider Feltham-Wokingham resignalling programme.

The line from Barnes to Feltham, including Strawberry Hill, was also closed over the Easter weekend and has re-opened today.

Mark Killick, Network Rail Wessex Route Director, said, "This is an important programme of improvements at one of the busiest parts of our network.

"The signalling technology in this area has been in place for nearly 50 years and is starting to show its age. It's vital that we introduce modern technology if we are to improve reliability, cut down on delays and provide our passengers with better journeys.

"We appreciate the patience of passengers and those living close to the railway where work will take place."
