Twickenham residents have donated over £5,000 in just two days to support the family of a man in a coma after being knocked off his e-scooter last Thursday night.

The man, Anthony Mumford, 53, owns a cobbler and key cutting shop on Church Street and the funds will go towards helping his family at this difficult time.

Mumford was on his way home from work on July 15 when he was hit by a car on Heath Road.

An air ambulance was called to the scene along with several police cars and ambulances and Mumford was taken to hospital where it is reported he is in a coma but stable.

Enquiries into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing. No other vehicles are thought to have been involved in the collision.

Anyone with information is asked to called police on 101 or tweet @MetCC quoting CAD 6701/15Jul.

The Crowdfunder was set up by Shona Lyons of Crusader Travel on Church Street.

She said: "Anthony Mumford has had his Cobbler and key cutting shop in Church Street Twickenham for approximately 15 years.

"He is a big part of our community & is known for his big heart & kindness often charging next to nothing if he thinks he can help someone less fortunate & always ingenious with his craft work in finding creative solutions to difficult problems.

"Everyone knows him, most have been helped by him in some way and we all love him.

"Right now he is in a coma after a terrible road accident in Twickenham on his way home from work on the 15th of July.

"We would like to help his partner Cheryl and his son keep his beloved shop going so he has something to look forward and help him on his road to recovery.

"There will be other financial burdens that the family face now too and as a community we should all come together to help them to survive this ordeal."
