Squire's Garden Centre in Twickenham hosts local resident, Margaret Ciano, winner of a competition launched to customers to mark the 60 year anniversary of the centre on Sixth Cross Road.

Commemorating the centre's anniversary were a programme of events including an anniversary tea, special horticultural talks, a memory tree as well competitions are being held throughout the year.

One of the competitions, which was offered to recipients of the centre's newsletter, was for a customer to "win a lunch for two" with members of the Squire family, Colin Squire OBE (Chairman Emeritus), who founded the centre in 1964, and his daughter, Sarah Squire, current Chairman.

The lucky winner was Margaret Ciano from Surbiton, who invited her friend Jacki Grafton to attend with her.

Commenting on her lunch with Colin and Sarah Squire, Margaret says: "Winning the competition was a really wonderful surprise and we had such an enjoyable day.

"I have been a Squire's customer for many years frequently visiting Twickenham and Long Ditton centres, so it was even more special!

"We had a wonderful lunch and thoroughly enjoyed chatting to Colin and his daughter, Sarah. We then ventured into the stunning plant area, where Colin and Sarah joined us and talked about some of the plants. It all made for a truly memorable day!"

Sarah Squire, Chairman of Squire's Garden Centres, comments: "It was an absolute pleasure to host Margaret and Jacki and celebrate Twickenham's very special anniversary year with them.

"Our centres are an important part of the local communities we serve and so it was a wonderful opportunity for my father and I to invite Margaret and Jacki as our competition winners - and also as long-standing customers - to mark the centre's special year.

"It was lovely to get to know them too. It was a very special afternoon."
