A key route to Twickenham is closed for two weeks to allow for a new flood defence scheme to be installed.

Waldegrave Road is closed from 27 August until 10 September.

The closure began at 9.30am on Tuesday, causing diversions for the number 33 and N33 bus routes.

These bus routes travel along the road and include bus stops outside St Mary's University, Teddington Library, Strawberry Hill, and St Mary's University.

A statement released by Richmond Council said: "The closure is to allow for the construction of a flood alleviation scheme within the intersection."

It continued: "Regarding the road closure, the road will be closed from the junction with Tower Road to the pedestrian refuge in Waldegrave Road.

"Pedestrian access will be provided at all times. Vehicle access for residents will also be maintained and managed throughout the closure. "

The number 33 and N33 buses will use Twickenham Road and Teddington High Street as an alternative.
