Ceremony will see people of Ukraine offer thanks to Twickenham
The people of Ukraine will formally thank Twickenham residents for their remarkable support at an event on Monday afternoon.
A plaque has arrived from Ukraine and it will be unveiled at the York House civic centre at 4pm.
The location is opposite the Ukranian Prosperity Café, which has become a key London hub for the collection of donations sent to help families in the war-torn country.
When the full-scale war broke out in Ukraine in February last year, Galyna Kosynska and Oleksandr (Alex) Yarema, who run Prosperity, took the decision to close its doors as a restaurant and instead put the space to use helping those in need.
They said: "We would like to invite you for a plaque unveiling ceremony at the Civic Center on 19th June at 4pm.
"This very special plaque arrived from Ukraine to thank the Twickenham community for their incredible support. Please come and join us."
They have been supported by a large group of local volunteers, schools and other community groups. And – to date – they have sent some 107 lorries of aid sent to Ukraine.
The team recently thanked the team at Twickenham Fire station for allowing the storage of donations. Previously, a tree has been planted in Cambridge Gardens, on the banks of the Thames.
