Watch out if you're heading along the river front this weekend folks!

The Thames flooded its banks considerably in Twickenham today (Friday, January 29) and water levels will rise even further over the next two days.

A flood alert is in force for the Tidal Thames riverside from Putney Bridge to Teddington Weir.

The Environment Agency said: "River levels are expected to be high as a result of spring tides and high river flows.

"Flooding of low-lying roads and footpaths is expected, which may exist for one to two hours either side of high tide. Flooding of properties is not expected.

"We believe there is a possibility of flooding for Putney Embankment (SW15), Chiswick Mall and Strand on the Green (W4), Thames Bank at Mortlake (SW14), Ranelagh Drive (TW1), Friars Lane and Water Lane (TW9), Riverside and The Embankment at Twickenham and the Towpath below Teddington Lock.

"We anticipate the flows to remain high for the next five days."

High tide on Saturday will be around 4.10pm with river levels reaching a height of 4.9 metres. Low tide is 12.25pm.

On Sunday high tide is forecast for 4.54pm with levels at 5.1 metres. Low tide is 1.22pm.
