Objections and notices of support have been made to plans for a former chiropractors in Twickenham to become a new home.

Elstree Land has applied to Richmond Council for planning permission for the scheme which would also see two new houses built behind the unit at The Green.

If approved the scheme would also see an extension built on the side of the existing building, allowing for another home to be built.

But ten objections to the development have been put forward, with many locals objecting to the scale of the scheme.

Clare Bates wrote: "Overall I support the proposal to covert the outbuildings to residential, however I object to the size of the changes.

"There is a dramatic increase in the density of residential dwellings compared to the current footprint which will have a significant impact on parking that is already a challenge in the area.

"Especially given that the current footprint has self contained parking."

Meanwhile Brenda Irons stated: “I live directly opposite the proposed development of the two additional dwellings in May Road, the proximity of which will directly overlook my house impacting my privacy.

"Whilst this does affect me personally, my main objection is the overall impact to this conservation area and my concern that the dwelling materials roof tiles etc., will remain in keeping with the character of the road.

"I object to the additional pressure this will inevitably create with the parking for both residents and their families who wish to visit."

In its application Elstree said the designs prioritised the "preservation of the building's heritage value".

It added: "In developing this site, Elstree Land is seeking to create a new environment which enhances both the landscape and the built character of the neighbourhood, delivering sustainable development for Twickenham."

The application says the chiropractors has been closed and vacant since November 2021, and already has a flat above it.

Plans show a two-storey extension to the side would provide another self-contained unit.

Meanwhile the workshops to the rear - described as being in an "unsuitable condition" - would be flattened to make way for the two new builds.

Supporting the plans Andrew Ainsworth said: "We wholeheartedly support this proposal as a sympathetic replacement of this rather shabby property that has been extended in the 1970's for workshop space."
