A planning application has been submitted to Richmond Council by AW Architecture Ltd to change a shop front so that it will fit in with the other shops in its proximity.

The shop, 376 Richmond Road in East Twickenham, used to be an Italian Cafe, but it is now permanently closed.

The shop sits on a terrace within a parade of eight shops with various designs and materials used for the shop fronts.

The application seeks to "enhance not only the shop but the Parade as a whole."

The application says: "This shop is probably the last shop on this road that still has Roller shutters installed on it. Removal of the Roller shutters and installing higher glazing will give a look of a much cleaner design and bring out the Historical Features like the Pillars visibly.

"The Previous / Existing Shopfront has no features that would be considered as Historical or Interesting."

The only historical features are some pillars on the walls, which will be retained.

The proposed works will see the removal of three existing roller shutters and existing aluminim frame and the installation of a new aluminium frame with glazing but without any roller shutters.

A consultation on the plans is currently open to neighbours and a decision is due on 4 April.
