To mark National Hate Crime Awareness Week, Richmond Council, the Metropolitan Police and Multicultural Richmond are encouraging residents to learn more about hate crime.

As the safest borough in London, in recent years there has been a decline in overall reports of hate crime. but marginalised groups still find themselves targeted with harassment and assault.

Richmond Council's top priority is creating an inclusive environment that ensures every resident feels welcome and secure, so this National Hate Crime Awareness Week (14 to 21 October 2023) they are remaining uncompromising in their commitment to tackling prejudice.

The 'Recognise It, Report It' event invites locals to join the organisations involved in countering hate crime and working with victims of hate crime to find out about:

  • The impact of hate crime on communities
  • How to report hate crimes
  • How to identify various types of hate crimes
  • The support available for victims of hate crime
  • Best practice for dealing with hate crime

The event will take place on Monday 23 October from 11am to 2pm at Whitton Social Centre.
