'It feels like home': Zenith Fitness members share stories behind thriving gym community

A Twickenham gym is celebrating the success of its growing fitness community, with members praising the welcoming atmosphere, expert coaching and life-changing results they have achieved since joining.
Zenith Fitness, a family-run gym owned by mother-and-son team Sandra and Tom, has built a loyal following through its class-based approach, with members describing the gym as a place where they feel supported, motivated and part of something special.
One member, who has been attending Zenith Fitness for the past two years, said they first discovered the gym simply by walking past.
"I saw energy, saw people enjoying themselves and thought I would pop in and give it a go," they said.
"Since joining I have become fitter, I can run faster, further and it has improved my rowing too.
"There is a real sense of community at Zenith Fitness. There is a real mix of people from different backgrounds, different ages and different vibes, and it makes you feel comfortable working out."
Another member said they became frustrated with larger gyms before finding Zenith.
"I had been going to gyms for most of my adult life but started to become disillusioned because there wasn't that personal attention or feeling that you were part of something," they said.
"I joined a class after speaking to Sandra and Tom three years ago and I haven't looked back since."
The member said Zenith's popular Z-Lift classes had helped them achieve personal milestones they never expected.
"I'm now lifting heavier weights than I ever have before. Coming to Zenith has become part of my routine and if I'm away, I genuinely miss it.
"It's not just fitness, it's also good for mental health because you feel part of something."
Members also highlighted the gym's coaching standards, with every class supported by two trainers and capped numbers to ensure personalised guidance.
"There is always someone there to answer questions and correct your form," one member said.
"Not only are the trainers knowledgeable, they're personable and fun too."
For another member, joining Zenith's Competition Club classes proved to be a turning point.
"That really changed the trajectory of my fitness," they explained.
"I discovered a competitive side of myself that I didn't know existed and I really enjoy pushing myself to see what I can achieve.
"When I first joined I didn't know anyone, but after taking classes I found my people. It became like hanging out with friends."
A fourth member summed up the atmosphere simply: "When you walk in here it feels like home. It feels comfortable and it feels like there is a family here for you."
Zenith Fitness was founded and is run by Sandra and her son Tom, who say creating an inclusive environment has always been at the heart of the business.
"As a coach, our purpose is making sure everyone feels equipped and confident in what they are doing," said Tom.
"The most important thing is that people have fun.
"Our job is to educate. We want members to leave Zenith with more knowledge than when they arrived and over time learn how to train themselves too."
Tom said the coaching team works with everyone from complete beginners to experienced athletes.
"We can cater for all abilities. Whether someone has never lifted a weight before or is highly experienced, we tailor the coaching to their needs."
Sandra added: "We are really keen to make sure everyone who walks through our doors feels comfortable.
"We tailor workouts to the individual and help them progress at a pace that suits them.
"The trainers know members by name, they correct form and if somebody is new, we make sure they receive extra attention and support."
She said seeing members progress has been one of the most rewarding parts of running the gym.
"What has been very motivational for us is seeing the progress people make. Our members become very important and special to us."
Unlike traditional gyms, Zenith Fitness focuses entirely on coach-led classes, with a varied timetable designed to suit different fitness levels and goals.
Alongside its adult fitness sessions, the gym also offers specialist classes including:
- New Mums classes where babies are welcome
- Kids fitness classes for ages 10 to 15
- Dedicated HYROX training sessions twice a week
- Over-60s classes designed to help older residents stay active
With no two classes the same and a strong emphasis on community, Zenith Fitness says its mission remains simple: helping people improve their fitness while enjoying the journey along the way.
