Twickenham primary school joins Government free breakfast pilot

A Twickenham primary school has been selected as part of a trail programme from the Government to provide free breakfast to pupils in 750 state primary schools across England.
Nelson Primary School in Nelson Road, Twickenham joins 76 other London schools as part of the pilot which is to begin from April before a national rollout.
The scheme is expected to offer a free breakfast to all students and at least 30 minutes of childcare before class.
Announced by Chancellor Rachel Reeves in September 2024, the 'Early Adopters' scheme will be tested before rolling out nationally.
The Department for Education said: "Breakfast clubs are designed to break down barriers to opportunity, as well as tackle the impact of child poverty.
"Free universal breakfast clubs give children a supportive start to the school day, ensuring they are ready to learn and make the most of the opportunities schools offer."
