Twickenham: Rail service chaos hits morning commute for thousands
Commuters were stranded at stations across the area this morning as services were delayed due to 'an obstruction to the track between Whitton and Twickenham.'
Many people, including workers and schoolchildren, faced delays running to 50 minutes, while many services between Richmond-Waterloo trains were cancelled entirely.
Twitter users were outraged by the delays as well as how South Western Railway are handling the situation with mother, Linda Madeley, saying: "Great start to the school year for my son! As usual no information and no staff to help."
Similarly Twitter user Christopher Temmnik said: "It's nearly two years of not commuting. In my first seven days back so far on the train I've been delayed twice so far. I'm now currently held on a train with no power or air con and no idea when they'll move again."
SWR have put out a statement saying: "All lines have been reopened following an obstruction on the track between Whitton and Twickenham.
"Services between Feltham and Twickenham may still be cancelled or delayed by up to 50 minutes. This is expected until 10:00am."
Tickets will now also be accepted on:
- London buses between Feltham Barnes and Teddington.
- London Overground services between Richmond and Clapham Junction via Willesden junction.
- Great Western Railway between Windsor and Eton central and London Paddington.
- London Underground between London Paddington and London Waterloo.
If any passengers wish to claim compensation as a result of today's delays make sure to keep your ticket and make a note of the time of your journey to validly make your claim.
