A Twickenham biltong shop has opened a new site a few doors down from its old home in Ricardo's Wine Cellar on Church Street.

Church Street legend Pierre Du Preez opened his new Limpopo Biltong shop in a surprise early opening last week and - as promised - there is a huge mirror ball suspended from the ceiling.

"I decided to do a soft opening," he said.

"I announced it at 5pm the night before on social media because I didn't want to overpromise and under deliver!

"It's like planning a wedding, there's so much that can go wrong.

"I'm still not ready - a bit more sparkle needs adding to the shop!

"We need more lighting, more shelving, and more fabulousness."

Despite this, he has received plenty of praise already and there is a real buzz around the new store when we visit.

"The support has been amazing," he says.

"All the flowers I've been given, the cards, the gifts!

"I've had so many well wishers."

The move came after Pierre managed to double his business over the last year, as he explained to Nub News back in June.

The shop is popular with locals young and old - particularly local dogs!

"The dogs get free treats!" says Pierre, who carries a bag of treats home in his pocket to give to happy pooches he meets along the Thames path.

"I just love kids, and I am a huge dog person.

"I see part of my marketing strategy as 'get the children and the dogs on board', because they bring the money."

And what about his plans for the future?

"I will be expanding the South African product range, but the meat range will stay the same" says Pierre, who keeps a list of everything people ask him to stock so that he can try and order the things that are most in demand.

"There is a lot of stuff that people have asked me to get - now I have space to get stuff and trial it!"

"The Limpopo Biltong brand is the foremost biltong brand in the country and I am proud to be a part of it - I am part of the Limpopo Biltong family!"

We wish Pierre all the best of luck with his new venture.
