Mayor of Richmond Cllr Geoff Acton has expressed his condolences following the death of Captain Sir Tom Moore.

He said: "I am sure I speak on behalf of the whole borough when I express how saddened I am to hear of the passing of Captain Sir Tom Moore.

"He inspired and helped us all understand that we each have our own part to play in this pandemic.

"Captain Tom showed how much power one person has to do good in the world, even from their own back garden. He lifted our spirits.

"I send my deepest condolences to his family and friends. We have lost a hero."

The Union Flag at the Civic Centre in 44 York Street, Twickenham will fly at half-mast today in honour of his life.
