Our thoughts are with the family of Twickenham resident Anthony Mumford who died in hospital this morning following an e-scooter crash last Thursday evening.

Mumford, 53, was taken off life support today after being in a coma in hospital since the crash on July 15.

He was riding the e-scooter home from work when the incident occurred on Heath Road.

His partner Cheryl said: "Tony has received the most amazing care over the last 5 days and we were always encouraged that there was hope of him recovering, even though he has suffered too many injuries to list, with sadly his biggest injury being on his brain.

"It was not possible for them to stop the swelling and believe me, they tried everything. Sedation was stopped on Tuesday and myself, Tony's daughters, and my sons were asked to go and say our last goodbyes.

"Please pass on our gratitude for the overwhelming kind words of support from everyone in the community. The words have kept me going in the darkest of hours."

Mumford owned a cobbler and key cutting shop, Toe-Knees Shoe Repairs, on Church Street and local residents started a fundraiser to help support the shop and Mumford's family.

The Crowdfunder was set up by Shona Lyons of Crusader Travel on Church Street and has now raised £10,524 (as of Thursday lunchtime).

Cheryl said: "The crowd funding will help to give Tony the send off he deserves.

"The shop is closed for the week but there is a number for a good friend of Tony's and mine in Twickenham who has keys and can open the shop if anyone needs to collect anything. Her number is on the door and also My number, (Cheryl) is on the door too."

Medics rushed to the scene at 7.06pm last Thursday and an air ambulance was called to the scene along with several police cars and ambulances, causing tailbacks through Twickenham.

Police said that enquiries into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing. No other vehicles are thought to have been involved in the collision.

Anyone with information is asked to called police on 101 or tweet @MetCC quoting CAD 6701/15Jul.
