Local artists and community members in Moormead, St Margarets have created a mural to put around the derelict Moormead Pavilion.

The mural aims to make the area look more aesthetically pleasing whilst they wait for the scheme to progress, as well as being another way to bring the community together.

It consists of a sign, outlining the the plans so that passersby can learn about the scheme.

In July this year, they signed a memorandum of understanding with Richmond Council which states that the charity will work together with the

They anticipate that Richmond Council will be a minority in the funding and most of the funding will come through the charity from things such as The National Lottery and The Football Foundation.

The plans for the new pavilion includes demolishing the existing derelict brick building and replacing it with a single-storey community pavilion to accommodate a cafe and kiosk, community space, ancillary kitchen and stores, storage space for sports equipment, public toilets, an air source heat pump (ASHP) and refuse store.

The building would be cylindrical in shape and would incorporate a green mono-pitched roof.

Gariesh Sharma, trustee at the Moormead Community & Sports Pavilion charity, which is leading the scheme said: "Growing up my kids used to play in Moormead FC and it was fantastic, there was free football on Saturdays for young kids but there was no toilets in the park.

"People kept saying something needed to be done and eventually, around seven years ago, I said I would do something. - planning is now done and achieved and we got so much support from our local councillors.

"It's been amazing working with the council and Paul Chadwick, there's a lot of talent here in Moormead so we've really been able to engage with the community, in a way that the council may have struggled to do."

He added: "We rely on volunteers to get things done - the mural around the Pavilion is a great example. Visitors to the mural can scan the QR code to get the latest updates on the project.

"We're working with Richmond Council to agree detailed specifications and costs for the new Pavilion so that it's of the right quality but also affordable."
