As GCSE students across Twickenham celebrated their successes yesterday, one Twickenham school has praised pupils, their parents and teachers in what has been a tumultuous few years for everyone involved.

Richard Burke, Principal at St Richard Reynolds Catholic College, said he is proud of his pupils for having "weathered the storm" of their GCSE years.

He said: "We are delighted to offer sincere congratulations to our Year 11 students on their GCSE results, and heartfelt thanks to the teachers who have worked so hard to assess and provide grades for them following the government's decision to cancel public exams.

"We are also grateful for the support offered by our parents and carers both to their children and to the College.

"It is this powerful partnership that has enabled our students to so successfully progress to the next stage of their education."

Burke also addressed the inflation in results that has occurred due to teacher-led assessment, saying it does not represent a devaluing of the grades in comparison to previous years.

He added: "It is important to emphasise that the system of teacher assessment that determined the grades this year is different from public exams and is, as a result, not directly comparable to previous years' results.

"However, the GCSE grades awarded to these young people are a fair and accurate reflection of their performance following the robust and rigorous process again adopted by staff this year.

"Our students deserve huge credit for having weathered the storm of the past eighteen months to emerge with qualifications of which they can be justly proud."

Congratulations everyone! Best of luck with your future studies.
